In my never ending adventure in creating the perfect office space I have added a new item that I am particularly proud of. A custom iPad mount for my ergotron display stand. A little history, I began looking for a a iPad stand that would look good when I found my neck hurting from making the transition from looking down at my ipad and then up at my screen. This activity occured because I would open reference books on my iPad while I worked.
I decided I needed to get my iPad up to eye level. I had some spare mounts for my ergotron but could not find a vesa compatible iPad stand that looked good. In my searching I stumbled upon Modgrain Custom Furniture and noticed the iPad Stand designed for a counter. I loved the X shape and the materials used. I also quickly discovered that Cody from Modgrain is here in Seattle.
Over the period of a few weeks we were able to get things worked out. Part of the project included me sending my mount to a friends CNC machine to cut away excess material on the mount. The result is a great looking and really functional mount. I love the metal pins that hold the iPad secure. The mount also allows for rotation of the ipad so depending on the content I am reading I can change the display. The build quality and finish are really nice and feel like furniture not like a cheap bookstand or plastic stand. Best of all the material has an organic quality and the aluminum pins compliment the aluminum arm of the monitor stand and iPad body.
